BBM News Now Available in BBM!

If you have been listening the past few episodes of the BerryReport Podcast or even TheNewTeamBlackBerry Podcast, you have probably heard me talk about how much I want BBM to start being a bigger social experience.  BBM is a great messaging platform, but it can be taken a little further with being a more social application.  They started to doing it back in the early days of BBM when they used BBM connected apps in BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 BBM. When BBM went cross platform, BlackBerry never brought that concept over to iOS or Android. Another way BlackBerry started to do that was with BBM Channels, giving channel owners a way to share among fans news, and opinions.  BBM Channels hasn’t been seeing much love lately however.

It looks like BBM is starting to listen to us! BBM has added BBM News to BBM. BBM News is located in the discovered tab and is has news stories ranging from Breaking News, Sports, Local, Politics, Entertainment and more.  It is pull from different news sources. You can share these news stories with your friends as well.

“People around the world are increasingly using their mobiles to read news and share articles,” said Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM globally. “Along with texting, calling, and email, reading news is one of the most popular things people do on their mobiles. This launch of global and local, curated news brings more of what people want to BBM in a tightly-integrated and compelling news experience.”

I really like this concept for BBM, as they are trying to give you a one place to go for different things. You have messaging with friends and family, a place to find news, and soon a place to play games with your friends (more on that to come).

Check out BBM News in the discover tab of BBM. You do have to make sure you have the latest update for BBM as well. Let us know what you think!
