If you are using WhatsApp on a BlackBerry 10 device or a BlackBerry Legacy device, you might have to find a subsititue for it by the end of the year. In a statement released this weekend, WhatsApp announced that it will be ending support for their app on BlackBerry 10, BBOS, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1.
“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.”
Now a simple solution for those using BlackBerry 10 will be just side loading the Android version which works fine for many folks that I have spoken with. If you are still using a BlackBerry OS device, you will have to either upgrade to a BlackBerry 10 device to be able to sideload, upgrade to a Android (Might I recommend the BlackBerry Priv) or iOS device, or convert all your chats over to BlackBerry Messenger!
